A Travel Review of the Granger Hotel

As a travel enthusiast and lifestyle blogger, I’m always on the lookout for unique experiences to share with my readers. Recently, I had the pleasure of staying at The Granger Hotel, a brand-new boutique stay in San Diego, California. This gem is located in the Gaslamp Quarter, a neighborhood known for its trendy dining options, shopping, and entertainment. Interested in learning more? This travel review is for you.

In the early 1900’s, this hotel’s basement was used to house exotic animals for the San Diego Zoo. Intrigued? Join me on a journey through my experience as I explore this fascinating piece of history.

Arrival and Check-In: A Warm Welcome

As I approached the entrance, I was greeted by the doorman. He asked for my name to confirm my guest status, then opened the door and welcomed me inside. The eclectic interior seamlessly blended elements from various decades, ranging from the 1920’s to the 1970’s.

The check-in process was quick and efficient. As I completed the formalities, I was pleasantly surprised to be offered a complimentary welcome cocktail. But first, I escorted my luggage upstairs.

The Suite: A Haven of Luxury and Comfort

I headed to settle into room 515. Stepping into my room at the Granger Hotel felt like embarking on a journey through time.

Decorated in warm oranges, blues and rich browns, the ambiance was both cozy and nostalgic. The shell-shaped headboard caught my eye, a charming nod to retro elegance.

Exploring the Hotel: Delightful Discoveries in a Travel Review

When I came back down, I gave the drink menu a look and made my selection. A few moments later, a sharply dressed mixologist arrived with a tray in hand. There stood a glass of champagne, and a crystal sidecar filled with fresh berries.

After browsing all the moody nooks, I decided to enjoy my cocktail in The Parlor Room.

The Parlor Room

Without a doubt, The Parlor Room exuded a sultry ambiance.

Dim lighting created mysterious shadows that seemed to give life to the animal print rugs below my feet. Large-scale abstract murals of female nudes gazed down from the walls and vaulted ceiling. The grand theater-style drapes pooled elegantly onto the floor, adding to the room’s dramatic allure.

The Lobby Lounge

The lounge offered a nostalgic trip through the decades.

Cheers to the blended decor from the past. A rich variety of textures—from plush fabrics to intricate patterns—gave the room a tactile and visually engaging charm. I appreciated how the seating areas were thoughtfully separated by lush plants adding a touch of nature and privacy.

5th & Lox

The dining area was immersed in an untamed energy.

Overhead, a colossal skylight sprinkled the room with natural light as if I were standing under a canopy of trees. Abstract paintings lined the walls, adding a touch of artistic flair to the vibrant space. The room was filled with large animal print chairs, towering jungle-like plants and sounds of birds chirping. It’s easy to see how this space can transport you to a serene rain forest.

Hallway Treats for a Travel Review

As I returned to my room for the night, I encountered a delightful surprise in the hallway.

Curiosity got the better of me as I tugged on the alligator-shaped handles of the armoire. Suddenly, a light illuminated, revealing an array of beautifully displayed candy options. To add to the treat, there was a cappuccino machine. The nearby dishware invited me to help myself to the late-night indulgence.

Breakfast Bliss: A Perfect Start to the Day

The next morning, I woke up to the soft rays of sunlight filtering through the curtains. They cast a warm glow over the room. I stretched, feeling well-rested and ready to take on the day.

I made my way to 5th & Lox where a lavish, complimentary spread awaited. As I walked in, a gentleman who was notably diligent in hosting this morning experience offered me an espresso. The gourmet buffet featured a traditional American breakfast. It also included an array of options, from freshly baked pastries and artisanal breads to seasonal fruits and gourmet coffee.

I made a plate and found a cozy space. It was then that I realized, I was seated underneath a skylight. The sky was a beautiful blue, and I knew it was going to be a wonderful day.

A Fond Farewell for a Travel Review

Overall, my stay was a perfect blend of luxury, comfort, and great service. Even in the beginning stages of hosting guests, the hospitality received was above average. I would stay here again and am excited to seeing how their amenities evolve.

The hotel did have a pool and fitness center, but they were located in a different building. I did not get a chance to visit either during this trip.

I hope you enjoyed this glimpse into my stay at The Granger Hotel.
