A Bubble Hotel: The Best Kept Secret in West Texas

Last Updated

I took a road trip through the wild expanse of West Texas and ended up in a ghost town on the edge of the Chihuahuan Desert. No commercial airports. Spotty cell service. And yet—absolutely thrilling. The kind of place where silence feels sacred and the stars put on a nightly show.

Arriving at the Bubble

You guys, I was SOOO excited about this bubble hotel in a desert experience that I could not wipe the smile off my face.

The walkway led me to the back entrance of a privacy wall. I reached the entrance and was greeted by a short set of stairs that took me down to the bubble. I looked to my right and that’s when I first saw it.

The View

There was a huge sphere-shape with a zippered door. As I went to grab the zipper, one of the most serene, picturesque views stole my attention. I instantly dropped my bag and headed to the front edge of the privacy walls. I was met with a 180° view of the Chihuahuan Desert. No sign of civilization in sight. My chest rose, and there went my breath.

I marveled at the seemingly infinite view for a few moments, thinking about how brilliant that canopy of stars is going to be later when I’m roasting marshmallows over the firepit.

Unzipping the Bubble Hotel

Inevitably, my curiosity started to get the best of me again. So, I walked back to the entrance of the bubble to begin my self-guided tour. There was a sign at the door informing guests to keep zippered doors closed or else the bubble will deflate.

Note to self: Keep doors zipped closed!

I unzipped the first door, stepped in and found myself in the kitchen space. It was stocked with a mini refrigerator, microwave… wait, let’s zip the door closed first!

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzip!

The Daytime Tour

Now, where were we? Oh! …a Keurig, coffee mugs, a stainless-steel water container with matching cups, and a welcome note with additional tips from the host.

My shoes came off as I reached the other side of the kitchen area. I unzipped the second door and immediately felt a cool brush of air against my face.

I stepped inside the bedroom, which exuded a warm, inviting ambiance. The tall headboard, crafted from rich, earthy wood, reached to the top of the bubble’s dome, where the split AC unit was discreetly nestled. It provided a refreshing coolness that contrasted nicely with the Texas heat outside. Wait! You let me forget again.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzip!

At the foot of the bed, two chairs and a small table created a cozy nook, perfect for morning coffee or late-night conversations. The see-through ceiling added a touch of magic, allowing natural light to shine in during the day. The combination of natural elements and thoughtful design made the room feel luxurious and grounded, what some people refer to as glamping.

This earthy feel continued into the next room. I unzipped the door on the other side of the bedroom and pleasantly discovered a well-equipped, full bathroom with a shower.

And that about sums it up for the daytime tour.

The Nighttime Tour

After getting settled in the bubble hotel, I headed out the door to grab supplies for the rest of my trip. I discovered a few sweet nuggets while exploring the town, and I can’t wait to tell you about it all. For now, we are back for the nighttime tour. Time flies when you’re having fun!

Are you ready to unveil the bubble? I am! Drum roll, pleeease.

It was fairly easy to pull the cover off from the back side of the bubble, revealing the transparent walls. Is it just me, or does it slightly resemble an eyeball?

The remote on the nightstand was for changing the color of the lights. How cool is that?! I chose blue, although it does look a little purple in my photos.

S’mores under The Milky Way

Now that the bubble is ready in all its transparent glory, I turned on some sweet tunes and switched my focus to the campfire. I trekked down the short cobblestone walkway to the pair of Adirondack chairs and began to prepare a fire. Next thing you know, I’m roasting marshmallows under the Milky Way.

What a night! Let me tell you, it’s peaceful in the desert at this bubble hotel.

And, before you go judging the presentation of my s’mores, just know that they tasted much better than they looked.

Oh, So Worth It

I don’t recall ever seeing a sky so dark. It was no surprise, really, thanks to the lack of light pollution in this rural area. I’m pretty sure I could see every single star. It looked like glitter dancing in the night.

Lying in bed, I was enamored by how the clear walls offered panoramic views of the West Texas night sky. It was a perfect spot for stargazing.

Forgive me for being sappy – Apparently, that’s what sleeping under a canopy of stars and being surrounded by the rugged beauty of the Texas desert will do to you.

Final thoughts before I drifted into slumber in my cozy bed – The celestial masterpiece above me, by itself, was more than enough reason to make this journey.

A Sunrise for The Books

When I tell you the sunrise view over the Chisos Mountains, from the comfort of my bed, was nothing less than spectacular, I mean multiply that by it took my breath away at least 3 times.

I soaked in the moment. Then, began doing my morning stretches and started my day.

I’m not sure if I told you or not, but there was also an outdoor shower next to my bubble. I won’t tell you which one I used, but I will say that I was invigorated for all the planned funs ahead!

10 out of 10, I would stay at this bubble hotel again!
